I don't understand what you're asking.

Gotcha now.
MARINE AIR Breathe Easy Air Filters | West Marine In the "bedroom" underneath, the one you can't stand up in, under the helm, there are three mini closets on the starboard side. The A'C is hidden in the aft closet |

Old thread but I'm really interested in this topic and I don't know anything about it, you really made me think. I haven't read about it in other forums but I think I'm starting to look for it.
By the way am I the only one who can't stand the hot weather? I die on such days and I don't know what I would do if I didn't have a conditioner in the house and in the car. The only problem is that sometimes it can fail, but I take it to air conditioner repair servicing and they fix everything." |

Re: 1998 Mariah Cruiser 28' Air Conditioning ?
I am interested in buying a 1999 z280 MCC, which I will not be able to see until spring. The owner tells me that it does not have AC. Does anyone know if an AC unit can be installed easily? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

The Z280 is set up to have ac. It has a breaker and wiring in the panel. I don't think it is easy to add but it is possible. I also have a 99 Z280 without ac and considered adding it but after pricing the components and the work it would take, I decided not to add it. Depends if you are planning to sleep on it overnight a lot.

I am definitely planning on many overnight trips with it. I live in SC and plan on taking it to Florida. What kind of pricing did you get to install a unit? Who did you contact for unit and installation? how about the "duct" for airflow?

Re: 1998 Mariah Cruiser 28' Air Conditioning ?
I did not contact anyone. I performed a BTU calculation on the main cabin, it is quite small so the smallest a/c unit 5000 - 6000 BTU would work. I was going to install myself. I looked at photos on this site for where the unit/return would be located. If I recall, it was either in the bottom of the hanging locker or under the starboard settee. The outlets can be run from a common duct that runs around the cabin in the storage area under the seats with small ducts mounted in the horizontal surface, between the port lights. Also need to run a raw water line and install a new thru hull for water outlet.

Thanks for the additional info. I would assume that the raw water line will require a pump, or would it just continuously flow to keep the unit cool? Just to make the info complete, will need to ensure that condensation drains to the bilge.
Hopefully, I can find a boat with AC installed. |
Re: 1998 Mariah Cruiser 28' Air Conditioning ?
I believe the raw water pump is part of the a/c unit. Good question about the condensate, I do not know where it goes.. It would be a lot easier to find a boat with factory a/c.
