lifting boat off trailer
 

Has anyone painted there hull them self ? I need to paint up to the water line and have to get under the trailer runners. Has anyone used a floor jack and 2x6 to do this.I just need to lift it 2-3 inches. Need to know where to place the blocks on the hull to jack it up. Last thing I need is a floor jack going into the hull.

The strongest points on most V-hulls are along the keel, the chines, and the transom.

If you are working inside the boat when it is on blocks,... move gingerly! Do not make any sudden moves because the boat does wiggle. At least for me being on hard packed gravel it did.

When we were cleaning inside, the second photo there is a wood block that is lying on the ground. We propped that up along the hull to support the front bow portion from rocking.

EDIT: My boat is moved from blocks to trailer to water and then reverse at the end of the season. There is a fine art of sliding it off onto blocks. I would love to watch them block up someone else's boat. (notice I said .. someone elses.. lol).

How did they lift it with a jack or did they have a crane of some kind to lift it ? And if they used a jack did they use 2 one on each side of the back corners ?

I assumed they used a fork lift with extended forks ?

An old late 80s GMC pickup and a bunk trailer to my knowledge.

The shed you see that in right now is where it is housed. There would not be the room for a crane to lift it out. I know they do not even own a forklift.

From what I remember them saying they back up the trailer into the shed, lay out the wood blocks, then I guess they raise the boat up a bit to get it to slide slowly off the bunk, let it rest on the wood and then move the truck out of the shed and slowly let the boat come to rest on the other front blocks of wood.

It was explained to me how they do it, but I have forgotten. That is the best I could do to think about how it would be done.

yeah the pics show that is is possible to offload the boat onto wood blocks. Just make sure it stays on blocks. :)
