Motorized Boat Winch

Does any one have one of these? Thinking about buying it for helping boat on trailer.

Personally, I think I'd save the money and take the time to practice loading and unloading the boat before I'd go putting an electric winch on the trailer. You'll have to find a place to mount the winch and the battery high enough above the waterline. I'm sure mounting a winch that's capable of pulling the weight of your boat will take up quite a bit of space. And I don't know about your trailer, but space is pretty limited on mine.

Also, I don't trust the steel line on winches at all. I've seen numerous cables break during my rockcrawling days, and trust me, it's not a pretty sight. If you do decide to go with the electric winch, consider a synthetic line or belt. I can help you locate some if you need help! And don't forget to document your experiences with it, we can always use more writeups for the board!!

12volt Boat Winch

Will for one thing the battery would be mounted in bed of truck. Wires would be long enough to reach. The first time loading boat on trailer, the hand winch on trailer almost made my arm fall off. Couldn't turn it for long. Had to take a number of breaks. The boat was about 5-6ft. from bow stop. Just the weight factor. With water up against back wheels of truck, and bunkers wet on boat . Had to take off shoes and socks and got feet wet. Had better control winding of winch. Electric winch seems the way to go. Won't have the turn arm of winch break an arm.

Re: Motorized Boat Winch

I have an elecrtic winch now. Works great! People will watch me sit on my tailgate of my truck bed and wait for me to wind in the boat. Only to see it being pulled in by itself. I use a retriever stick for hooking eye of boat. No more getting feet wet. :wink_thumbup:
