We got about 15-16" here today but i think we're done but its the most snow we've had in a day for probably 6-7 yrs or so. Now they're saying the winds are supposed to pick up tonight & tomorrow morning so we're likey gonna have to deal with snow drifts tomorrow....and more shovelling. I've got a snow thrower but its still quite a work out with this much snow. Then they're calling for rain on Monday around here....

Headed over to central Oregon today to pick up a forged crank, rods and pistons for my new build.

Here are some pics of the trip. At HooDoo ski resort it was 31 (at the road), 28 on the mountain. 45 in town.

Then I was passing by Detriot Lake. They nearly empty this thing every year. But thankfully as you saw all the snow in the last pics, it fills back up each spring.

I think we all look at other areas and figure it would be nice to live there. I've only been to London twice for a few hours while awaiting connecting flights elsewhere but Britain has the Lake District, the Scottish highlands, Cornwall/Devon/Somerset, Norfolk coastline etc that are all scenic. People look at my area with the Muskokas (cottage country), Niagara Falls (ho hum), Rideau valley etc and since i've seen them all a number of times they aren't that special to me. I've always looked at our west coast (Vancouver and Victoria) as places i wouldn't mind living and i've yet to go there (but will later this year) so i'm really not sure what it is actually like there. Not sure if i could handle all of the rain though & the increased cost of living. I've also been to France/Germany/Belgium/Netherlands/Austria and thought they would all be neat places to live (even just for a few years) because its such a relatively short drive to another country for a vacation. We almost pulled the trigger on a move to Antwerp about 10yrs ago when my wife was offered a high level job there. We went over & spent 3 weeks, liked what we saw but didn't go because of our kids and elderly parent issues. Looking back, i still wish we had done it even for 2-3 yrs.

the half drained lake is located at about the 1500 ft elevation mark. HUGE douglas firs, fairly thin air and crystal clear (as clear as melted snow water can be) water. The town of Detroit has about 200 full time residents and during the summer weekends it climbs to 2500-4000

Of course you are right mikey, the grass is always greener over the fence.
Although Heathrow and Gatwick airports are both toilets! In my opinion…
Like you I have travelled a fair bit, in fact I spent a month in Australia last year with a view to emigrating.
I live in a nice part of the UK, I’m in the New Forest just outside of Southampton on the south coast. Just a small woods compared to your national parks…
The problem with over here apart from always being told what you can’t do all the time is space! There is none. It’s such a crowded place and getting worse all the time with all the Eastern Europeans (ex-soviet bloc countries) coming over.
I’ve been to the states a few times and enjoyed the sense of freedom you have. The fact that you can drive off into the middle of nowhere and not see another sole for hours, if not days.
I was in Florida a couple of years ago and while Mrs B and my daughter wanted to do the parks I was off looking at boats/fishing and working out house prices….lol
(Oh and I know Florida is not a real representation of the states also been to California, Nevada, Colorado & Michigan)
