May Two-Four
Well how about it Canucks? Will it be a parka and shorts weekend or what? :shakehead:
I'm picking my Shabah on Friday! It's even topped off with last fall's cheap ($1.10/L) gas! Woohoo! Gonna be out on Georgian Bay though, so bow riders could still potentially suffer some frostbite! :rolling_laugh: Hope everyone has a safe and fun Victoria day. |

Mine's gonna be spent around home. Wifey still isn't quite healthy enough to ride in a boat yet so i haven't gone to get it out of storage to date. Maybe i'll pick it up this weekend so i can get started on my projects..... |
Well because of work being effing open this Saturday, I will probably be stuck working it (unless my boss wants to be nice and switch). So after 1pm Saturday I will be north bound. :wink_thumbup:
BTW - Watch out for the coppers, the planes will be out in force this weekend from what I heard. Basically they would be radioing down to the coppers on the road to alert them on who to nab. I have heard of a so-so weather forecast as well. Which is why my boat wont be on water for another 2 weeks or so. Needless to say .. Happy May 2-4 weekend! :D |
I got a message one of the bars I frequent in Sandusky, OH is having a Pajama Party on the 24th, half tempted to drive up there just for that!!! :eek_animated:
On a serious note, what's Victoria Day? I'm trying to learn all the canadian culture, as I'd love to visit your country sometime! We have "Memorial Day" on Monday the 26th, a holiday to honor those who have died in military service. It's a federal holiday, so banks, post offices, and government businesses are closed. It makes for a nice long weekend! |
The holiday is the birthdate of Queen Victoria......ruler of the British Empire in the late 1800's. We were still a British colony then and although we've unloaded that yoke, we hate to waste a reason for a holiday. :)

Some more reading :) In some parts of Canada, the holiday is colloquially known as May Two-Four.[2][3] This phrase has two meanings: the holiday always falls near the date of May 24, and a two-four is Canadian slang for a case of 24 bottles of beer, a common packaging of the drink in Canada (and a common purchase of those planning to celebrate the weekend). http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_22773.aspx |

Well I spent what probably is going to be the best weather day of the weekend boating!
The assistant harbourmaster said he saw some ice floating near the shore this morning... :eek_animated: Georgian bay was uncharacteristically calm today. :wink_thumbup: Offshore breezes on this side of the peninsula to thank for that. Made for a great day out. My kids even rode up front, with the bow cover pulled up tight to their necks! I forgot to check for frostbite though... ;) Tomorrow the mobile crane shows up at 8:00am to lift all the big boats into the harbour. Always makes for a good show. Those last minute folks are just getting wound up under the worklights over there. Pretty much an annual party. No doubt you'd find some two-fours over there... :) |

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
What a cold wet crappy May 2-4 weekend this was !!!
Oh well. At least I got up north to see my boat. Everything is in tip top shape. No damages to report, no animals crawling inside. It was just too darn cold and wet to bother working on it now. So I paid my dues on Sunday and left at lunch time today. As I was leaving ... i saw another Mariah in the shed near to mine. Stopped to take a look and it was a 2000 Mariah 182. It didn't have any other markings as to if it was a Shabah or something similar. But it was a bowrider and had captain chairs and a Alpha I off the back. I drooled a bit on it ;) hehe |
Cold and windy for sure. I'm glad I added Friday. Weather really thinned out the drive home tonight.
I got out for another run today, up along Whiporwhill. The boat was running great. The offshore breezes kept the swells to a minimum along there. I imagine a folks on southern Georgian bay would've been seeing some huge rollers though. :eek_animated: I disassembled my helm for a stereo upgrade. I think I'll add the panel re-inforcement while I'm at it. I borrowed a zip saw from my BIL to help with the rear speaker upgrade. I hope to get that finished next time. That and good interior cleaning and I'll be good for the season. |
