Speedometer
As of July, I am the owner as of 96 Mariah Shabah 18', and new to the boating world. Runs great but the speedometer isn't working. I was told that it can be something as simple as "dirt in the line". Am a single female owner and don't want to be "raked over the coals" by taking this to a marina that could possibly charge an arm and leg for something "simple" to fix. My uncle is doing the winterization. Any suggestions on self repairing the speedometer?

Re: Speedometer
This is a fairly easy repair. The pickup point for the speedo is on the front of the outdrive just below the cavitation plate. It's a very small hole & there is a good chance that its plugged. Take a small piece of wire & probe carefully & you should be able to clean it out. Also, if you have a small air compressor you can disconnect the plastic tube line from the back of the speedo & stick the compressor hose in the line & blow the line out backwards thru the outdrive. If you have two people doing this then one person can pinpoint the pickup hole while the other blows air thru the line. Dont use the compressor on the outdrive end!
