New to Mariah - looking at a '93 Diablo

Hi all,

I'm fairly new to boating (had a '86 Four Winns for the past year or two) and we just looked at a '93 Mariah Diablo. It is an 18 foot with the larger mercruiser. Appears to be in very good condition (clean engine, great interior, hull looks to be in great shape, etc (but we do plan to have a boat mechanic take a look before we make a final offer).

The asking price is $7300 (which feels a bit on the high side) and I was hoping to get some general idea of what people feel is a fair price on the boat along with any input from owners on this or similar model/year Mariahs, any things to look out for, etc.

I'm excited to find a forum specific to the Mariah boats and intend to become a regular if we pick this one up! Any feedback, thoughts, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

-Chase

Welcome to the board chaseman!

That price seems to be a little high for a 93 Diablo, even with the 4.3L engine. NADA is showing a low retail price of around $4500, and an average retail of around $4800. Even if the boat's in tip-top mint shape, $7300 is pretty pricy. Keep in mind, that's 16 years old. Do a quick search on something like boats.com or another classified site and see what others are going for.

The Diablo series was Mariah's entry line series, however, they're still much more well equipped and constructed better than many other boat builders. We've got quite a few members with 180 Diablos that absolutely love them. Hopefully they'll chime in and offer some helpful advice on a reasonable price!

Thanks a bunch of the quick reply. What looking I've done tends to imply that the $5-6k range would be more appropriate, which seems to be a bit more in line with what you suggested.

I also wasn't sure the significance of the "Diablo" line was, so its helpful to learn that it is more of the entry line for what they offer. Shouldn't make a big difference to me, but had seen very few references to it, so it is very helpful to better understand.

The Diablo line ran from 1991 to 1993. The 183 Diablo Outboard model was the last of the Diablo series, and it was released in 1994. It resurfaced again in 2001, and they offered the 180 and the 200 Diablo models through the 2002 model year.
