Still Taking on water
 

after all the great input and changing out all the bellows and Gimbles to the tune of $800 the boat is back in the shop because there was still 2 gallons of water that was drained at the end of the hour trial run. The shop wants to fill the boat with water because what comes in must come out....Does that make sense? We couldn't see where the water was coming in. The shop feels the scapes on the underside of the boat don't warrant any worry that they aren't deep enough to cause leaks.:mad:....any other ideas out there!

Are there any trim tabs/Smart Tabs installed? Extended Swim Platform installed? Aftermarket depth transducer?

Other than additional holes along the transom, I can't think of anything besides the bellows/transom assembly. I'd have to see the "scratches" on the underside before making a comment - but if the shop isn't worried about them...

Maybe the shop didn't reinstall something correctly. Hopefully they can find it! Yes, I've heard of putting water in the boat to see where it comes out, but that doesn't always work - not the same amount of water pressure trying to equalize. 2 gallons in one hour should be a fairly significant hole. Another worry - is your bilge pump working?

Sorry to hear you are still having problems. You might want to thoroughly check the exahast system as someone pointed out in your other thread. It's another candidate for excessive water intrusion.

A couple summers ago I noticed I was thinking on water. After only a short time driving the bilge pump would start pumping out water. I would stop raise the engine cover but could not find water coming in. I felt the water in the bulge area and it was warm so, I new it was coming from the engine. I pumped out the water and set for a while in a cove and then checked for water. NONE. I then ran the boat for around 10 min, looked and found a few inches of warm water. At idle I could not see where it was coming from. I had checked all the engine drain plugs I could find but the mechanic found one in the back the had been left open after winterizing.

Putting water in the boat makes perfect sense, this is how I found the leak on my boat. We put some water in it, parked it on a steep incline and found water leaking out a rubber boot on one of the cables going through the back of the boat. Mine would only leak with the drive down because it was stretching out the rip in the rubber boot allowing water to come in. With the drive up the crack in the boot was sealed. Give it a shot.

Check all the hoses in your cooling system and your drain plugs. The water could be coming from the engine itself!

Hey out there,
Just received a phone call from the marina mech. Regarding taking on water.
He said the circulating pump at the motor was leaking and feels this is most likely the issue. He could not finde any leaks after filling up the boat with water. I had told him i had seen a leak at the pump but only a small drip, he said most likely when under throttle it leaks more with presure. Wil test drive again when it warms up.
