Its time to build a boat!!!

Thought that you might like to know that I am doing the ultimate Father/son project by building a boat!!! My youngest son has become a boating crazed 10 year old . I have been letting him take the wheel of our Mariah and he has been getting used to the feel of our bowrider. We have also been rebuilding old outboard motors. The great thing is that he can take apart a carburator and identify most of the parts ,then put it back together! We are working on a 1955, 5 Hp Scott-Atwater outboard at the moment. As he has developed a "need for speed" I bought the plans for a 10 ft Hydroplane which will comfortably take up to 20 Hp.
We are in the early construction phase at the moment but if anyone is interested i would be happy to supply updates and even some pics. I was hoping to have it done by mid-October but having never taken on a project like this ,it might take longer. If you want to see what designs are available go to Glen.L.com website .
My project is on the opening page bottom left pic.

Hi Mark,

That is one awesome looking project! I want you as a dad so I could have one too! :D

Seriously though, It looks like a great family project and I know you both will have lots of fun with it and with a 20hp motor, it should go like a scaled cat!!! :eek_animated:

I assume you'll be putting in a throttle or foot peddle of some kind like Rob eventually did, it looks awkward trying to steer and hold the throttle arm at the same time...

Best of luck and share some pictures when she's complete,
WetWilly

That boat is great. You've inspired me to do the same for my kids.

10 year old taking apart a carb ..!?~!? :eek_animated:

Wait till that 20hp turns into 2000hp! There was a boat that I thought was called the "spider craft", but nothing turned up on google. Im sure I have documents on a boat similar to what you are going to be building.
