Decal removal, seen the true colors! Lol

Waddya thing guys... Compound polish and wax will bring it back or is this a wet sanding job? See pics of reg numbers removed. Difference is quite different. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...d1fde28004.jpg

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Wet sand then compound polish? I'd like to get her back to its original.

Start slow, try compound first. If that doesn't give you the results you are looking for then wet sand.

Yes 3m imperial compound is spoken highly of amongst the people who've tackled this. I don't exactly know how thick gelcoat is, or if its ever been done on area's of this boat and ive heard stories of going to far and exposing the fibreglass weave.
Im going to go the compound route this time.

I have the same issue on my boat. A good compound and polishing will hide it and make it less noticeable for a while, but towards the end of the season when it starts to oxidize, it'll be obvious again. That's when everyone starts calling me "Sea Angel" :) (that was the decal on the sides of the hull). Wet sanding is something I've considered, but will likely hire someone to do it who knows what they're doing, just to make sure I don't screw it up. But give the compounding and polishing a try, it'll likely help!

Thanks! Wet sanding is a little scary, and so is a heavy compound. Ive seen used boats in lots that it almost look like you can see the fibre weave starting to come through.

A friend of mine who is an experienced boater, said theres a product called " simple green" and a scotch brite non scratch pad. Its more elbow grease, but he said after 2 seasons of using it, the gelcoat was restored. He said that product is magic. Haha!

Temperatures are falling here, ( joys of living in canada) was nice.. Now the overnight lows this weekend is supposed to be 1 degree celcius. Time to empty the block and manifolds and disconnect hoses, drop the drive.

3m marine restorer with wax and be done with it. Chris is right, it will eventually fade again, but how quickly will depend on how much uv exposure it gets.

Post up some pictures when it's finished.

Just waiting for the 3m imperial compound to come in, have the wax. Carnauba wax. Gives me time to watch another 1000 you tube video's on how to properly gelcoat finish haha!
