First time power boater

Hi all,

I'm new to the world of motorised boats (well soon to be, about to buy a second hand 2006 SX18) and wanted to know if there was a good guide out there for taking a boat out, from startup checks and sequence, through to after use flushing and pack up.

That generic manual doesn't give too much away.

I have sailed for years but wouldn't mind a quick heads-up from those who do it on a regular basis.

Cheers
Jay.

JayD, In the past this forum was quite active, it's been getting slower and slower the last couple years.

Here's a thread of the same question with a pretty thorough list attached.

If you have a sailing background, then the on-the water stuff will be easy, just remember those sails have right-of-way ;)

If you're trailering it: At the launch, remember to be calm. Go through your checklist, but don't take an hour to do it. There will be plenty of crazy's there to watch and laugh at; don't be one of them. You should be able to pull up at the launch, torn on the blower, unstrap it, double check your plug, put on a bow line, splash it and park the truck. By the time you get back to the boat, your wife and kids should be aboard, the blower has been running for 2 minutes and all you have to do is turn the key and drive away.

I trailered for years. If I hadn't run my boat for more than a couple weeks, I would put the muffs on in the driveway and fire it up to be sure it would work at the launch. Maybe paranoid, but I like to know that it's going to start quickly with no issues at the launch.

Thanks for the info blockp. I can wait to have a crack at it when I pick up the boat in a couple of weeks.
