Boat wanders & Fuel Gauge questions

Hi all,

I'm new here. This will be my second summer with my Mariah 180 Shabah (1996). I have two questions, first, is at forward idle/slow speeds, the boat seems to wander back and forth. Is this normal? My last boat was an outboard and I didn't experience this at all.
Second question is my fuel gauge seems to indicate full until it's almost empty. My guess is I have a fuel sender issue, but wanted to run it by everyone before I get the tools out.

Overall, loving the boat. Great fun!

Thanks!

Re: Boat wanders & Fuel Gauge questions

The wandering is reasonably normal for most stern drives but it can be reduced or eliminated with the installation of a set of Smart Tabs. Do a site search here and you will find more info than you need to know about them.

The fuel gauge issue is also common to many sterndrives. There is an electronic fix detailed in the Maintenance section but the parts are difficult to find. Probably easier to simply replace the fuel sender unit.
